Prepare For Your Deck Estimate: Things to Think About

by | Jun 18, 2025 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Preparing for your estimate is a great way for you not to feel overwhelmed with taking on a new project. There are many things to think about, especially when installing/rebuilding a deck, so we put together a list of things to keep in mind prior to your estimate.

We offer 2 different material options for decks: hardwood and composite (LVT).

Pros to Hardwood

  • Initial cost is typically cheaper than composite.
  • Easy replacement of individual boards.
  • Wood decking tends to be cooler on your feet in the summer months.

Cons to Hardwood

  • Requires regular maintenance, including staining and sealing, to prevent weathering and rot.  (This could end up costing more for you in the long run!)
  • The color will fade over time, especially during the summer months.

Pros to Composite

  • Low maintenance
  • Highly durable
  • Retains its color and appearance for years with minimal fading.

Cons to Composite

  • Can retain more heat making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot on during the summer months.
  • Higher initial cost.

Other Things to Think About

  • What  color would you like? Some colors for composite cost more than others which would change the price.  For hardwood, there are a variety of stain colors.
  • Will your deck be going to a pool?  If so, you must have a gate with a latching system which will add to the cost.
  • Will your deck have railings?
  • Do you want an enclosure on the bottom like the one pictured here?
  • Do you need any lighting?

It is important to us at Liguigli Construction that you feel prepared for your estimate. That way you will remember each question you want to ask. Please never hesitate to reach out to us if you think of questions that were not covered here!
